The YMCA Christmas Run started in 1983 to celebrate the holidays with the running and walking community of the Treasure Valley. Now, three decades later, the Christmas Run has become a tradition for many Idahoans. Many of our participants celebrate the holiday season as a family by running or walking together, and we encourage dressing up in festive holiday costumes. Singing Christmas carols is also welcome; after all, ’tis the season to be jolly! Participants can choose to run or walk either a 6.1 mile (10k) or 2 mile (3k) course, or the new 1 mile Reindeer Dash. And don’t forget, we will be waiting for you at the top of the hill….registration and website here.
Need a few extra miles in 2013 to hit your target mileage goal? Want to start 2014 with a few miles right off the bat? Then join us for the 2nd annual Pulse Running & Fitness Shop New Year’s Double Challenge – where there’s something for everyone! Run one half marathon or run both to complete a full marathon in 2 days. No registration fees… just a couple of days of fun running together. One way we can say thanks to all of you for a great 2013 and a great way for us to start off 2014 together. An event page will be set up soon on Facebook and details will be available on the Pulse Running & Fitness Shop website as well so stay tuned for upcoming information.
Check out the YMCA New Year’s Day 5K Run. The 3.1 mile course starts and finishes at the Ram Restaurant, located across from Bronco Stadium at Broadway Avenue and Myrtle Street in Boise. All proceeds from the 2014 New Years Day 5k will be used to help support the Treasure Valley YMCA Team Idaho Track and Cross Country Club. This club, started 33 years ago, helps kids at all levels improve and enjoy track & field and cross country in addition to learning goal setting, sportsmanship and proper methods of reaching a high level of fitness. Last year, several overachievers participated in the YMCA event in the morning and then joined us for the New Years Double Challenge in the afternoon
And after the New Years Double Challenge how about this annual local tradition… Emileon’s FA Recover From The Holidays 50K on January 4th. Why ‘Recover from the Holidays’? For the uninitiated, Recover From the Holidays 50k runs are a post-holiday tradition. Similar events are held in a number of locations around the United States. The event is an informal event without entry fees, awards, official finishing times, aid stations, or wimps (not true). Our purpose is to get together for a nice run rather than to have a formal race. The distance is not exact. Directions are not exact. Starting time is not exact. I’m pretty sure about the date. Check out the website for some event history, the course, and everything else you may have never wanted to know…but we will still see you out there
On January 18th the Wilson Creek Frozen 50K Races return…regardless of weather and conditions. There are many distance options to freeze or slog from and the courses are being run in reverse directions for the 2014 edition including 50K, 20.3 mile, 10.8 mile, and the new 5 mile route. Of course we will be out there freezing with you at the Pulse Paradise aid station. Join in the Winter fun and get all kinds of information here. And don’t forget…this is the first race on the 2014 Idaho Trail Ultra Series calendar…now you can’t pass it up.
